The KDPW Group (consisting of the Central Securities Depository of Poland and the KDPW_CCP clearing house) ensures the efficient operation of a modern depository, clearing and settlement infrastructure for the Polish capital market. KDPW operates as a central depository and settlement institution, responsible for the settlement of transactions executed on the regulated market and the alternative trading system and for managing the central securities depository. It also performs a range of services for its participants: the processing of dividends for shareholders and processing of other corporate actions, such as assimilations, share splits and reverse splits, rights issues and general meetings. KDPW also acts as a trade repository (KDPW_TR), which meets the requirements of the EU’s EMIR regulation. The reporting of derivatives transactions is mandatory for all entities trading these types of contracts. In 2013, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) registered KDPW_TR as one of the first four such repositories in the EU. As the national numbering agency, KDPW assigns LEI codes, necessary to report derivatives trades to the trade repository, which identify the parties to the transaction. In November 2014, KDPW also began issuing FISN codes, which explicitly identify financial instruments in the global market. In order to ensure compliance of the Polish market with new EU standards, in October 2014 KDPW shortened the current settlement cycle from T+3 to T+2. The shortening of the settlement cycle will reduce the period investors need to finalise their trades, while KDPW Group participants will require a shorter time period for posting collateral for open positions. KDPW has begun work on the EU authorisation of the Polish CSD on the basis of the CSDR regulation, which will officially confirm compliance with the highest EU standards for central depository infrastructure institutions.
